Identical Coupled Task Scheduling Problem: The Finite Case
نویسندگان
چکیده
Scheduling tasks on a radar system can be modeled as a multioperation scheduling problem where tasks are composed of two operations separated by a fixed duration. Tasks have to be scheduled on a single machine and the aim is to minimize the makespan. The complexity status of this problem has been settled for various cases but the one where all tasks are identical remains open. This paper aims at showing that this case raises original and difficult problems and is highly unlikely to be polynomial.

Identical coupled task scheduling: polynomial complexity of the cyclic case
Coupled task problems arise in connection with radar systems. For the transmission and reception of an electromagnetic pulse the radar (the processor) has to execute two tasks that are separated by some fixed time interval. Most of the complexity issues for scheduling a set of such pairs of two-operation tasks have been settled. However, the complexity status is still unknown for the identical ...
متن کاملPolynomial complexity of the cyclic identical coupled task problem
Coupled-tasks were introduced by Shapiro in 1980 for scheduling the operations of a radar [19]. The radar emits a pulse that is transmitted to a target and reflected back to the radar, which receives the pulse. Hence the radar must process two operations per task (emission and reception), and those operations are separated by a fixed duration. The coupled task scheduling problem is then to proc...
متن کاملThe Finite Horizon Economic Lot Scheduling in Flexible Flow Lines
This paper addresses the common cycle multi-product lot-scheduling problem in flexible flow lines (FFL) where the product demands are deterministic and constant over a finite planning horizon. Objective is minimizing the sum of setup costs, work-in-process and final products inventory holding costs per time unite while satisfying the demands without backlogging. This problem consists of a combi...
متن کاملAn Efficient Bi-objective Genetic Algorithm for the Single Batch-Processing Machine Scheduling Problem with Sequence Dependent Family Setup Time and Non-identical Job Sizes
This paper considers the problem of minimizing make-span and maximum tardiness simultaneously for scheduling jobs under non-identical job sizes, dynamic job arrivals, incompatible job families, and sequence-dependentfamily setup time on the single batch- processor, where split size of jobs is allowed between batches. At first, a new Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) model is proposed for t...
متن کاملA New ILP Model for Identical Parallel-Machine Scheduling with Family Setup Times Minimizing the Total Weighted Flow Time by a Genetic Algorithm
This paper presents a novel, integer-linear programming (ILP) model for an identical parallel-machine scheduling problem with family setup times that minimizes the total weighted flow time (TWFT). Some researchers have addressed parallel-machine scheduling problems in the literature over the last three decades. However, the existing studies have been limited to the research of independent jobs,...
